Finnish classes - 1

Being in Finland for more than a year and not knowing Finnish is OK!!! Considering the fact that Finnish is a tough language to learn, you can excuse yourself. Last week, we all (Deepak,Rupam,Aparna, Sucheta and myself) enrolled for Finnish classes. Unfortunately we joined "Finnish in Finnish" ( not "Finnish in English") course, which means that the teacher would explain us in Finnish. So now, learning Finnish becomes even more challenging :( .

Yesterday(01-Sep-2009) we had our first class. The teacher taught us few basic phrases that can be used in day to day life. She did explain a few things in english, so we were able to understand a few of those phrases.
I noted down a few of the phases and their meanings.(used the following site for translation : http://ilmainensanakirja.fi/ and htpp://translate.google.com )

hei - hello
Päivää - Good afternoon / good day
Huomenta! - Good morning
Moi - hello/Hi
Hyvää päivää - How do you do/Good afternoon / good day
Hyvää iltaa - good evening
mitä kuuluu? - what's up / how are you/how are you
Hauska tavata! - Nice to meet you!
hyvästely - Farewell
hei hei - bye bye
Näkemiin - farewell/goodbye/so long
Nähdään -See you later/see you
Hyvää jatkoa! - Take care!
kiitos samoin - thanks, the same to you!
hyvää yötä - good night / don't let the bedbugs bite!
uudestaan - again
Entä itsellesi - what about yourself
Hei, mitä kuuluu? - Hi, how are you?
Ihan hyvää. Mitä sinulle? - Quite good. What happened to you?
No, ei mitään erikoista. Mihin olet menossa? - Well, nothing special. What are you going?
Olen menossa kahville. Tuletko mukaan? - I'm going for coffee. Will you come?
Hei. Hauska nähdä - Hello. Good to see you
Niinpä. Pitkästä aikaa. Mitä sinulle kuuluu? - So. Long time. What are you doing?
Kiitos oikein hyvää.Entä sinulle? - Thank you very hyvää.Entä to you?
Olisin kiva joskus tavata. Nyt on kyllä vähän kiire - I would be nice to see sometimes. Now is certainly a bit busy
joo, mutta soitellaan - yeah, but your call!
joo,nähdään - yeah, see you

The first challenge is to memorize all these phrases before our next class (i.e tomorrow).
Well, I am not confident of continuing this course or of learning Finnish, but hope that my friends are determined enough so that I continue with them :)
