Pessimistic approach - Can it help?

Almost always, a pessimist is considered to be a failure. Is it really the case? Are there any aspects of a pessimistic approach that we could use to our advantage?

The dictionary definition of a pessimist is : A person having tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view.
The above definition seems to makes one believe that having a pessimistic approach is bound to result in failures. But has anyone given a thought that this pessimistic approach could be used to one's advantage? Not many would agree to this, but the below mentioned approach is worth giving a try.

If you are facing some problem or you are about to take some important decision, then try the below
Step 1: Try to analyse the problem and figure out the worst possible outcome.
Step 2: Prepare yourself to the worst possible outcome.
Step 3: Then try to improve the worst.

The above approach may seem to be completly useless, but then try to look at the positive aspects of it.
- The moment you analyse your worst possible outcome, you know that you will not have any unwanted surprises.
- Once you perpare for the worst, you will be relieved of the pressure/tension of the result.
- Any improvement in the worst possible outcome will definately make you feel better.

The above mentioned does not mean that you should turn into pessimists. It only implies that the pessimistic view of the problem could change the way you deal with it.
Whenever you face some problem, be as optimistic as possible, but don't forget the pessimistic perspective.

A pessimist sees the glass half empty where as the optimist sees the glass half full. But the fact remains that you have just half a glass of water with you.So it is the perspective and the approach that makes the difference.

Good Luck!!

You're talking about being realistic and that does help ; but a pessimist will think that its the end of the world and nothing can help him out there
