I had gone for an exam today( entrance exam for a masters program). One good thing about the exam was that for each question there were limited number of lines available for answering. It was specified clearly that anything written outside the writing area would not be read by the evaluator. Also, we were not allowed to attach more sheets for writing.
This is a great way of reducing the effort of the applicant as well as the evaluator. Also, with limited space, you learn to put accross your ideas in less words. Hope this approach is used in our engineering exams as well :)
