Recipe: Toor Dal

  1. Boil 1 cup of toor dal and water in pressure cooker (until 2 whistles)
  2. Place the cooking pan on the stove. Add very little oil (2-3 spoons).
  3. After the oil has heated up, add Jeera (Cumin), Mori(mustard), grated Ginger and chopped Garlic (1 piece).
  4. Finely chop 1 onion and add it to the pan
  5. Add a little bit of salt
  6. After the onions have fried (colour changes to golden), add the finely chopped tomoto (1 tomato)
  7. After the whole thing has fried well, add little sambhar powder and let it fry for some more time
  8. Add 1 cup of water and 1 tsp tamrind powder and small quantity of Jaggery
  9. Add the toor dal (which was boiled in the pressure cooker)
  10. Let it boil for few more minutes.
  11. The toor dal can be eaten with rice or roti
