Recipe: Toor Dal

1. Boil 1 cup of toor dal and water in pressure cooker (until 2 whistles)
2. Place the cooking pan on the stove. Add very little oil (2-3 spoons).
3. After the oil has heated up, add Jeera (Cumin), Mori(mustard), grated Ginger and chopped Garlic (1 piece).
4. Finely chop 1 onion and add it to the pan
5. Add a little bit of salt
6. After the onions have fried (colour changes to golden), add the finely chopped tomoto (1 tomato)
7. After the whole thing has fried well, add little sambhar powder and let it fry for some more time
8. Add 1 cup of water and 1 tsp tamrind powder and small quantity of Jaggery
9. Add the toor dal (which was boiled in the pressure cooker)
10. Let it boil for few more minutes.
11. The toor dal can be eaten with rice or roti

Recipe: Alu paratha

1. Boil 4-5 potatoes (2 whistles in pressure cooker)
2. Make the dough for making chappatis.
3. After the potatoes are boiled, peel them and mash them to make a paste. Add salt, Jeera powder, Dhaniya, Mirchi (green chillies finely cut), Pudina, Ajwain. Mix the mixture properly and make small balls
4. Make small balls from the dough. Roll them a bit and put the pototo ball into it. Then roll like  parathas and heat on the pan (tava)

Aazadi..

Time: Aaursh around 7.5 years

We were going to the school in the car and one Bollywood song "Aazadi" from the movie "Gully Boy" was playing in the background.

Since Aarush is learning a bit of Hindi at School, I asked him:

Me: "Aarush, Do you know what Aazadi means ?"
Aarush: "No, What does it mean ?"
Me: "Aazadi means Freedom."
Aarush: "Well, I do not have it."

Me: "What do you mean?"
Aarush: "You always tell me, do this, do that, get ready. I have wait until I am 18 to get it"


Kids give you the message when you least expect it :)

Why did you ???

Time: When Aarush was around 5 years

When Aarush was 5 years old,  we were trying to teach a few things to Aarush like reading simple words, simple math etc.

One day, I was not teaching him much as he was not listening to me.
So, Aarush turned to his mom and asked:

"Mom, Why did you marry this guy. He does not teach me anything..... "

Face your fears

Event: Aarush 8th birthday. Event at Huippu, Leppavaara, Espoo, Finland

For Aarush's birthday, we had an event at Huippu. Huippu has a few obstacle courses made on the trees.

In one of the obstacles, Aarush's friend was a bit scared and was hesitant. Aarush's friend, who is a football player got this motivational advice by Aarush:

"A footballer must face his fears"

My reaction: Highly impressed by Aarush's choice of words :)

P.S: What's more hilarious is that Aarush himself is scared of quite a few things, so this advice coming from Aarush was absolutely hilarious ...

Your husband !!

Time: When Aarush was around 4 yrs old

Aarush and I visited a Electronic good store (Gigantti, Espoo, Finland) to buy something. Aarush wanted me to buy a phone cover for my phone. I did not buy it as I already had one.



After coming back to home:
Aarush to his Mom (Sucheta):  "mamma, your husband is very naughty. He does not let me buy anything."


Next day, when I returned from office and rang the doorbell:
Aarush to his Mom (Sucheta):  "go open the door, your husband has come..."

Getting late for School

Time: A few weeks ago. (Aarush around 7.5 yrs old)

We were getting late for school. As I was driving towards the school

Me: Aarush, today we will be definitely late for school.

Aarush: Dad, relax. It's not the end of the world if I get late to school...

Me: Ya, right :)


So irrespective of what Aarush grows up to be, he will be a happy man and will not let the pressures of the world bother him too much :)
